Career Summation
He graduated from the PAF Academy in 1978 and has flown a wide assortment of fighter aircraft from the PAF’s inventory during his flying career. He has been a part of several Operational and Training Squadrons including the coveted Combat Commanders’ School as an instructor. His command assignments include command of a Combat Squadron and an Operational Base. He served as an Air Adviser in the Pakistan High Commission at India.
His numerous staff appointments include serving as Staff Officer in different capacities to three Chiefs of the Air Staff, Deputy Chief Project Director of the JF-17 Program, Director-General Air Intelligence, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Support) and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Administration). He specializes in the domains of Aerospace Development, Security, Air Operations, Intelligence, Logistics, Administration, Disaster Management, and Aviation Infrastructure Development.
Subsequent Endeavours
He also served as Director-General Civil Aviation Authority for over two years. He ensured completion of the New Islamabad Airport, along with renovation and expansion of the Peshawar, Quetta, and Faisalabad Airports. Final Planning and designing of Gwadar Airport was achieved during his term, along with modernization of Air Navigation Services in CAA. He is an alumnus of the Singapore Aviation Academy and has been a regular speaker at international conferences on the development and safety of civil aviation. He was also nominated as Chairman Pakistan International Airlines by the Government of Pakistan.
Academic Pursuits
Air Marshal Asim Suleiman (retd) holds a master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from Quaid-iAzam University, Islamabad. He is a graduate of the National Defense University, Islamabad and Defense Services and Staff College, Dhaka. He attended the National Security Workshop at NDU, Islamabad. He was on visiting faculty of the National Defense University (Islamabad), the Air War College (PAF Base Faisal, Karachi), the Command and Staff College (Quetta) and the Pakistan Navy War College (Lahore).
Assorted Engagements
He has been closely associated with sports. He was the Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Squash Federation, President of PAF Golf, President of the PAF Sports Board, and President of the Islamabad Blind Cricket Association. He has also been a member of the governing boards of the Shaheen and the Fauji Foundation. He is also an honorary member of the Royal Air Squadron, a group of avid aviators from Europe.
Awards & Achievements
He is a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (M) and Sitara-i-Imtiaz (M) for his meritorious services. He was also awarded the Sitara-i-Basalat and gallantry award, Imtiazi Sanad.
