Air Commodore Khalid Iqbal (Retd)

Career Summation
He was commissioned in the Air Defence Branch of the PAF in 1979. He has worked on all Air Defence weapon systems of the PAF and has been a part of several Operational and Training Squadrons. His numerous staff appointments include Senior Staff Officer, Deputy Chief Inspector of the PAF, and member of the National Air Defence Committee. He has also served as Director Policy and Assistant Chief of Air Staff. He commanded two Squadrons, an Operational Training Wing, and a Forward Operating Base. He is a fellow of the PAF Air War College and has served as a member of its Directing Staff. He was an instructor and squadron commander at Combat Commanders’ School. He participated in operational assignments during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. He also served in the UAE Air Force and Air Defence as a Squadron Commander for two years.
Subsequent Endeavours
He has also served as a consultant (Policy and Strategic Response) at the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI). He has been an active participant in various think tanks and has been on their panels. He has given talks at various conferences, nationally and internationally.
Academic Pursuits
He holds three master’s degrees to his credit; one each in Political Science, Strategic Studies, and Business Administration (Executive). He is a member of visiting faculty at Quaid-i-Azam University (Defence and Strategic Studies Department); PAF Air War College, School of Army Air Defence; Pakistan Navy War College; and National Management College.
He is also a graduate of the National Security Workshop at the National Defence University, and completed certification in an International Nuclear Law course conducted by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
Assorted Engagements
He is a member of the ‘Vision 2025’ initiative at the Planning Commission of Pakistan. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the ‘Sargodhian Spirit Trust’ (2009-2018).
