Air Commodore Umer Farooq Chaudhry

Air Commodore Umer Farooq is Director Ops & Admin at the Centre for Aerospace and Security Studies (CASS), Lahore. He holds a master’s degree in Management of National & International Security Strategies and Leadership from Turkish War Academies, and a BSc (Hons) Degree in War Studies. He has attended ‘National Security & Strategic Leadership’ workshop at Islamabad, ‘International Conference on Air and Space Power’ (ICAP-13) & ‘International Symposium on Air Warfare History’ (ISAW-14) in Turkey. He is also a Turkish language diploma holder from NUML, Islamabad.

During his impressive career as a Fighter Pilot in Pakistan Air Force, he had the honour of flying various types of aircraft, including top of the line Mirage and F-16 Fighter aircraft. He is a graduate of the renowned Combat Commanders’ School and completed the Flight Safety Officers Course (PAF) and the Quality Assurance Officers Course (USA) with distinction. His command assignments include command of a Combat Squadron and a major PAF Training Base. As regards staff appointments, he served as Deputy Director at OR&D Secretariat, Chief Inspector (Operations) in Inspector General’s Branch, Chief Project Director (Vision) at AHQs, and Senior Air Staff Officer at Central Air Command, PAF. He has the privilege of being the first Contingent Commander of PAF Contingent deputed to Qatar Emiri Airforce for proper establishment of Qatar Air Academy.  He also attended the first joint international exercise (Ex Al-Suqoor-1) held between PAF & RSAF. He actively participated in flying operations during ops Sentinel and Kargil crisis.

The Air Commodore is a recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Mil) and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Mil).
