A PhD in Economics, Ahsan Abbas is senior economist with over two decades of diversified experience in prestigious public and private sector institutions. He has had a distinguished career as a researcher, faculty, and trainer, and held key academic, and policy positions.

Education

Dr Ahsan Abbas, holds a PhD in Economics from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad. He also has an MPhil degree in Economics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

Professional Experience

Dr Ahsan Abbas served for over two decades as a researcher, faculty, analyst, and trainer in notable public and private sector organisations. He worked as a faculty member at the Government and Public Policy (GPP) Department of National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, and GIFT University, Gujranwala. He served as a Senior Research Fellow/Policy Head at the Centre of Excellence for CPEC (CoECPEC), Islamabad, and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad. He also worked at the Planning Commission of Pakistan and the National Productivity Organisation (NPO), Islamabad. He has been associated with various international and national organisations on various projects, including Research for Social Transformation and Advancement (RASTA), PIDE & Planning Commission Competitive Research Grants, Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) Network, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), US Agency for International Development (USAID) and others.

His areas of expertise include economic policy, econometric analysis, and data analytics with applications in macroeconomics, development economics, and industrial economics. He is well-versed in advanced econometric methods to analyse multifarious socioeconomic data using various mathematical, statistical, and econometric software and computer packages.

He has published his research works in various reputed international and national journals, newspapers, and contributed to books and policy documents. He has also presented his research outcomes and analyses in the areas of economic planning and development, public policy, and applied economics at prestigious national and international forums/organisations. He has been extensively refereeing and reviewing journal articles and research projects.
