Ameer Abdullah Khan, Senior Research Associate at CASS Lahore, focuses on security, geopolitics, aerospace affairs, and climate change. A Doctoral Fellow at NDU, he has taught and consulted widely across academic, policy, and international development sectors.
Ameer Abdullah Khan is a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Aerospace and Security Studies (CASS), Lahore. His research focuses on international and national security, geopolitics, aerospace dynamics in South Asia, and environmental politics. Currently a Doctoral Fellow in International Relations at the National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan, Khan is examining the security, governance, and climate nexus in Pakistan. He holds an M.Phil and MSc in International Relations from NDU. His M.Phil thesis contributed to the field by focusing on an exploration of the implications of climate change in the Himalaya-Karakoram-Hindukush (HKH) region for Pakistan’s national security. He also possesses a BSc in Engineering from the National Textile University, Faisalabad.
Khan has also participated in several prestigious international training programmes, including those organised by the Sandia National Laboratories (USA), Royal Scientific Society (Jordan), National Institute of Peace and Development Studies (Thailand), Youth for Resilience (USA), and the International Institute of Islamic Thought (Malaysia).
At the national level, he has been part of capacity-building initiatives conducted by the the Pakistan Meteorological Department, LEAD Pakistan, Centre for Pakistan and Gulf Studies, National Institute of Management, Pakistan Manpower Institute, Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development, National Institute of Disaster Management, and the National Defence University, among others.
Khan has previously served as a faculty member at the National Defence University and MY University, Islamabad. In the strategic and defence policy domain, he served as Research Fellow at the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) and Team Lead – Research and Analysis Centre at TAMBRO EXOP GmbH. During his career in academia, he taught courses on Theories of International Relations, International Politics of Environment, Climate Change and National Security, Diplomacy, Contemporary Security Issues, History of International Relations, and Foreign Policy of Pakistan, etc. He also supervised 27 theses at BS and MSc levels, held several key administrative portfolios and remained a member of curriculum development initiatives. He has also mentored the candidates for the Central Superior Services Exam for over a decade.
Khan’s international consultancy portfolio spans collaborations with renowned global development partners such as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), UK, German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Germany, Policy Practice UK, Accountability Lab International, and Democracy Reporting International. He has also provided consultancy and policy research support to several national institutions, including the National Disaster Management Authority, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, United Energy Pakistan Limited, and Inspire Pakistan. These engagements reflect his broad and multidimensional expertise in climate policy, security sector governance, disaster risk reduction, and institutional development. He also remained associated with a Track-II and Track-V diplomacy initiatives.
He has to his credit the organisation of several national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and training programmes. With multiple publications in recognised peer-reviewed journals, Mr Khan also writes extensively for national dailies and magazines, offering analysis on key issues in international relations, security, and environmental governance. He is frequently invited to speak at academic and policy forums, both in Pakistan and abroad, and has appeared on national television to share his expertise. In recognition of his professional contributions, he has received six official appreciation letters on various occasions for exemplary performance.
